I decided on my idea for my project by looking and working on my strengths in animation. I was looking at all my previous projects and taking a sample of each of their best bits. I think if I didn't do this at the start, my project would have been completely tougher and it wouldn't fit my kind of style. Inspiration from artists was key to creating ideas for my project without them I would probably be clueless on my direction.
My project is close to what I do in my daily life. I chose walking to work because I walk to work but I don't enjoy the 45 minutes. I play a lot of basketball but I'm not the best at it. I do the dishes in my own time but when I get told to do it I lose interest. I mixed these ideas with two influences. A short experimental film Dom/House and a cut-out animator named Hoji Tsuchiya, and if you were to look at these influences first you could tell the major impact on my animation.
I never had important decisions that I needed help with; I think it was more of finding another way around the decision or going with that important decision by myself. The decisions were discussed in peer groups and one to ones. In peer groups, most of my feedback was praises and some errors that I should look at. However, one to ones with students and tutors were effective because I think the reviewer took more time into seeing and giving feedback to me and I can recall being told to look at Kafka by Kat and that changed the direction of my work.
In my opinion, I flexed in and out of my proposal. I got inspired by the artists I wrote in the proposal and looked into my daily life for research however the last sentence of my proposal is minimal. I did look at Nepali manuscripts yet my animation at the end you can't tell it was inspired by Nepali manuscripts.
This whole project, most of my work I have been doing at home in my workspace because I had the minimal resources to record stop motion but when solidifying an idea I went to campus to get a higher production quality. I reached out for help when working with programmes such as Premiere Pro or After Effects and that led me to create such a wonderful polished outcome. Simon helped me with removing bluescreen and kickstarted me in After Effects.
I believe that with these 10 week projects, I have gotten better at everything, such as time management, creating ideas, animating, etc. In my view, the boldest decision I have made this project was changing programs. I was considering Premier Pro to complete the animation but I did a huge u-turn and completed my animation on there because I felt I got the hang of it and it had more effects for me to play with.
To conclude, this project has sharpened me as an artist. I worked in a tough time where I cant go to campus every day and I had to work independent. I learned new skills such as pixilation, using a green screen and using a new program. I got opened up to more artists such as Norman McLaren, Franz Kafka and some small artists. I am grateful for every minute of this project.
