Chris Shepherd is a director that I got introduced by Kat in one of the morning sessions with the whole class. We looked at Dad's Dead.

Dad's Dead when I first heard the title I was like "Wow this is going to be dark" which it totally was. As a viewer we go through a traumatic series of events. The narrator talks about his childhood friend called Johnno who is a completely crazy till all collapsed when we hear his "Dad's Dead". This short mixes animation with live action which plays out nicely as the animations are mostly children cartoons. This short definitely hits you with emotion and it's quite sad to see the narrator's childhood friend slumping down hill and being a complete menace. My favourite bit is the blind man saying Johnno is a saint because it was sad to see how much he isn't then the same quote comes again in the last scene with the narrator's mother. "Johnno a saint..."

After liking the dark and grungy short Dad's Dead. I browsed through Chris Sheperd's work and stumbled across this animation Who I Am and What I Want.

Who I Am and What I Want intrigued me because it looked like a simple animation and it is. It is really simplistic and so is the narrative. It's just the animation, the characters and the voice fits in so well to create this weird short. It starts of with Pete saying who he is and what he's done and accomplished to then what he wants to do in the future. The story is engaging because it's not a normal life that Pete lives. Pete lives in the woods and has been kicked out of the city life and he doesn't know why but ironically talks about what he's done. However, it's fine because he likes to live alone in the woods at last. I love this short because it's so simple and I love the script of this short.
